Overdue / Lost Material Policy
Each item checked-out from the library is stamped with the date the item is due to be returned to the library. Patrons are responsible for returning all borrowed items before closing time on the date due.
Overdue fines accrue at .50 per day per item. Fines cap at $10.00 per item. Fines cap at $25.00 for overdue recalled items. A courtesy overdue notice will be sent two days after the due date. A second courtesy notice will be sent as a follow-up reminder ten days after the due date. Twenty days after the due date, the patron will be billed for the replacement cost of the item, plus a $15.00 processing fee.
It is the responsibility of the borrower to keep track of due dates. Materials must be returned to one of three book drops (two inside the library and one just outside the library's entrance) in order to be properly discharged. The borrower is responsible for material lost due to improper return. Borrowing privileges are suspended for students, faculty and staff when $100.00 is owed in overdue fines or replacement costs, if fifteen or more items become overdue, if recalled items are not returned promptly, or other abuses occur.
Students, faculty, and staff pay fines/fees at the Cashier's Office in Canaveral Hall. Alumni and community patrons pay fine/fees by personal check or cash at the Circulation Desk. Borrowing privileges are suspended for alumni and community patrons when one item is overdue or any fines are owed. Further check-outs will be blocked until maximum limits are reduced.
